Diablo 2 Time Trials

So, for those who don’t know, I am a huge Diablo 2 fan!! And I have been drooling over Diablo 3 since the first screenies.

When the game first came out I was in the top 50 on HARDCORE (USWest) for about a year or so.
When that character died /cry I had insane level characters (non-hardcore).
Got to the point where I would find stuff that would sell on eBay and did that for a year.
Now that it’s insanely easy to level up to 80 in no time, what is left in the game?

How do we are keep the game fresh? Diablo 2 Time Trials.

Rules: Diablo 2 with Lord of Destruction expansion. You must start a new character, level one, naked as the day Blizzard created you. Start the clock as soon as you start moving and end it when you kill Baal. No map hack or any other third party software for that matter.

Current Records:
Alone: my record is about 5hrs 30min (Ice Sorc)
LAN Party of 3: Sylar, GM, and myself 4hr 17min 15min!

We have done it a handful of times and our record is really out in front of the second fastest time. Our group consisted of a Static Field / Ice Sorce (teleport); Druid (Fire Storm); Amazon (Power Strike) and a lot of luck finding stairs quickly.

Goals:
Alone: Sub 5hrs! ((Accomplished 21 June 2009; Cold Sorc))
LAN Party of 3: Sub 4hrs!
LAN Party of 5: Complete EVERY quest in Diablo 2 under 6hrs!
LAN Party of ?: never go back to town… beat the game.
LAN Party of ?: Start to finish… on all three difficulties! Sub 7hrs!

Ideas:
Personally I think the fastest party of three could be 3 Sorces (two Ice, one fire). Ice-Sorc #1 Is the teleporter, and the other two are mowing down enemies together, freeze the enemies and the other guy burns. Problems with this build: Squeeshy characters! All characters need fast cast equipment. Lots of mana used. Oh and who gets all the skulls ;)

Background:

I was talking to my friend about Star Wars unleashed and trying to decide if I should buy it or not. He mentioned it was probably a rental game due to the short length. He said about 6 hours, then another friend commented, “I wonder if you can beat Diablo 2 in that time.”

I’ll take that challenge!
